Tips to be a math whiz!
- Practice math flashcards 5 minutes each day. Start with simple addition facts (_ + 0, _ + 1, _ +2, etc). Move on as your child is able to solve the facts readily. Once you child is comfortable with addition, try subtraction.
- Make up story problems for your child. Daily routines may lend to a real life problem! (We had 5 Pokemon cards. Then we bought another pack of 5. How many do we have now?) (We had out 8 stuffed animals. Then you put away 5. How many animals are out now?)
- Count by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s as you do your daily activities (cleaning up, making dinner, in the car, etc). Once your child has mastered these, try counting backwards.
- Look at your change from the store. Practice naming the coins and how much each is worth. For a challenge, count the total amount.
